I'll Have My Cake and Eat it Too!

Friday, March 4, 2011

You know when you first start wedding planning you have all these ideas, and then (by the time you're half-way through planning) you find that your original ideas have evolved, or even changed? Well, that hasn't really happened to me!

With the exception of one thing...the cake!

At first, I didn't want a wedding cake, in fact, I hated cake! Yuck! Next, Mr. CF was put in charge of the wedding cake, he could do what he wants! Then, Mr. CF, in fear of making the wrong decision regarding the cake, relinquished his duty and returned the task to me. Thanks. Then I had the bright idea of having a tiny cake with lots of specialty cakes (the kinds I actually like...cheese cake, tiramisu, etc.) sitting around it. So what now you ask?????????? Well, I decided that I want a big wedding cake of course. What girl doesn't?!?

The first thing I did after this realization was call the bakery to set up a tasting. I am very excited to go in a couple of weeks and I've been scouring the internet for pictures of my dream wedding cake. Here's what I came up with!

Yummy Cake

Mr. CF poo-pooed the one on the top left and bottom right :( C'mon, they're gorgeous! Plus, he's going to get his own cake! I decided that I'm going to show all of these pictures to the baker and see what he can come up with that will make both of us happy! Relationships are about compromise, right?

So tell me, have you changed your mind about anything over the course of your wedding planning?

Whimsical Crowns

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

I apologize for my absence over the last week. I was battling a terrible cold and am finally back to feeling 100%! This morning I was reading through my "The Knot" magazine (remember the one I got for FREE at CVS?) and came across a little wedding timeline. Seeing that we are approximately 8 months out, I decided to check and see where we're "supposed" to be in our wedding planning this month.

The Knot is telling me to:
  • Narrow down my dress choice and place my order. Check!
  • Set aside a block of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. Check!
  • Decide on the bridesmaid dresses and make sure the girls get measured and place dress orders. Not there yet!
  • Book a baker, choose your wedding cake design and pay a deposit. Do you hear that Cuddlefish?
  • Create a wedding website. Check! (This will be released to family & friends once the save the dates go out)
Looks like we're doing okay.

I'm purposely behind on the bridesmaid dresses because, personally, I think it's too soon. Which brings me to the next item on my list, or shall I say Mr. Cuddlefishy's list. Remember this post where I mentioned that he is in charge of all things cake related?

Althoughhhhhhh...since I'm on the topic, maybe I'll throw out a cake idea I had ;)

I was browsing Ballard Designs the other day and found these beauties:

Then I thought to myself, "it would be cool to have two small cakes, a King and a Queen". Then we could display all of our other specialty cakes and desserts around them. I'm thinking just plain looking cakes with these king and queen crowns sitting on top! Problem is, I do not know how heavy these things are (not listed in the product information) and am not sure if a cake could support them. Does anyone know how much weight a cake can support???

Cutest Cupcake Stands Ever!

So cute, right?! For all you DIY girls out there, how can I do this myself??? These would look incredible on our dessert table!

Sweet! Yummy! Delish!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

I just cooked (and ate) some yummy lasagna and now I'm in the mood for some dessert! What a perfect time to talk about the cake! Now, before I go on and on about what I'm looking for in a wedding cake, I must be honest with you all and admit that Mr. Cuddlefish is in charge of everything cake related. Yes, he is in charge of deciding on the design, the size, the topper, the flavor, and choosing the bakery. I totally trust him with all this and at the same time it is so hard for me to give up control! Either way, the decision is his and I will just use this post to share my opinions. Maybe he'll read this and like some of my ideas! {wink, wink}

When it comes to wedding cakes, anything goes! I've seen cakes that tower 5 feet in the air, some with dozens of roses cascading down the side, and also the ever popular "cupcake" cake. What does Miss Cuddle Fish want, you ask? (C'mon guys, you know me) None of the above!!!!!!!!

I propose that we have a small one or two-tiered cake surrounded by lots of yummy specialty (non-wedding) cakes! I've never been a huge fan of regular cake and on my birthday I always request an ice cream or cookie cake. So why would I settle on a traditional cake for the wedding??? I wouldn't. If. It. Were. My. Choice. And it's not!

So because marriage is about give and take, I believe that we should have both! A (small) traditional wedding cake surrounded by lots of other (much better tasting) cakes like Oreo Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Cup, Cookie cake, Cupcakes, etc. Doesn't that sound delectable?! And then I'd like to sit them all on cute cake stands and decorate the table with nice linens and flower arrangements. Let's see what this could look like...

Did you have something other than a traditional cake at your wedding? If so, share your idea!
